Low-Dose CT Chest Protocol Reviewed

Dr. Murdoch has recently reviewed our LDCT protocol for lung cancer screenings. We recognize that an across-the-board protocol for low-dose CT is difficult in practice since different scanners have different parameter capabilities.

Dr. Murdoch is in favor of getting as close to the standard we have provided as each individual scanner can, but we recognize not all scanners can do that. Having your industry representative help your facility with the LDCT protocol for your specific scanner is a great starting point. The main thing is to keep the radiation dose down to acceptable levels. If changing your protocol, Dr. Murdoch says you can and should proceed with low-dose CT as long as it tests out appropriately from a dose standpoint on phantom testing.
